Dolce and her brother, Nero are 50% Siberian Husky and 50% Golden Retriever. Their parents were abandoned at a Golden Retriever rescue center, and on September 30, 2016 their mother gave birth to six puppies. Meanwhile, eighteen months had passed since Jay and Maureen Raffaldini's beloved dog, Pinot, passed away. Maureen was ready for another dog, but Jay was not sure he could ever love another dog again after losing Pinot. With some hesitation, they headed to Virginia to meet two of the 8-week old puppies and pick one to rescue. Barbara Raffaldini went along for the ride. When Jay and Maureen met the happy-go-lucky male puppy, it was love at first sight. They named him Nero, after Jay's favorite red grape variety, Nero d'Avola. Even though Barbara hadn't planned on adopting a dog, when she held the sweet girl, Dolce, in her arms, Barbara knew instantly that they wre meant for each other.
Nero and Dolce live two miles apart and get to see each otehr often. The Raffaldinis are thrilled that the "pups" are growing up together and consider themselves lucky to have been "rescued" by these two amazing dogs.
