the
vineyard
Born from the Heart of the Carolinas
It all begins with the land. Nestled near the Yadkin River and Blue Ridge Mountains at 1,200 feet of elevation, our vines push through porous granite and schist rock to thrive. Rocky soil forces roots deeper, drawing out trace minerals and the complexity that defines every bottle. This gives the grapes a certain ‘terroir’ known as a sense of place.
Cool nights and granite soils slow the growing season — steadily building the acidity and structure that gives the Italian varietals their unmistakable depth and character.
Born of a Bold Vision
Raffaldini primarily cultivates Sangiovese, Montepulciano, Sagrantino, Teroldego, Vermentino and Trebbiano – among the first Italian varietals to take root on the East Coast.
There is an old Italian proverb that says, “the land the farmer rejects is the land that the vineyard accepts.” This implies that the less fertile and more rocky the land, the more superior the wine will be as the grape vines struggle for survival by digging deeper into the soil in a never-ending search for water and life’s minerals.
