2021 Sagrantino

2021 Sagrantino

Sagrantino is one of the rarest grapes in the world with less than a thousand acres planted.
The ancestral home of Sagrantino is the province of Umbria, which lies just east of Tuscany.
In Umbria, the ancient hillside town of Montefalco is the center for Sagrantino plantings with
almost half of the grapes planted there. Sagrantino is an extraordinarily-tannic red grape
capable of making wines of immense power and structure easily aging for decades. This dry
red wine is not for the faint of heart!

Sagrantino loves hot weather and has made itself quite at home in our vineyard, as the wines display immense power and structure. It’s a super tannin bomb, and those of you with patience will be rewarded with an incredible flavor evolution as the wine will soften up and new flavors will emerge with a few years in the cellar.  Sagrantino is it responds well to our Appassimento drying technique, displaying concentrated flavors of dried plums, dried cherries, currant and savory characteristics reminiscent of pipe tobacco. Sagrantino is the Umbrian’s companion some of Italy’s most cherished cuisines, black truffles and wild boar.
