Frances Mayes (Under the Tuscan Sun) has written a beautiful history and travel guide of Italy that we will be discussing with her and co-author Ondine Cohane. We will also travel closer to home and visit Raffaldini Vineyards & Winery's beautiful venue.

Independence Day Celebration
Saturday, July 4 | 1pm

Celebrate the 4th of July with an afternoon of wine, live music and pizza at Raffaldini Vineyards! Bring your own chairs or blankets and spread out on our grounds. For this family friendly day children under 21 years old are welcome. Gianno's Food Truck will be on site from 12pm to 4pm making their handmade personal pizzas and Camel City Jazz Quartet will be playing their cool jazz sounds from 12 pm to 3 pm.

2018 Grande Riserva Release

Jay Raffaldini invites you to the Villa for the release of the next vintage of , Grande Riserva. This iconic, Raffaldini red is made from Montepulciano, Petit Verdot, and Sagrantino grapes, harvested at optimal ripeness are triple-sorted and then dried heavily using the Appassimento drying process to further concentrate the grapes natural flavors and aromas.

We invite you to stop by on Saturday, June 13, chat with Jay about how we make the Grande Riserva, and enjoy a complimentary sample of this new vintage. Grande Riserva is a limited-quantity wine, but bottles will be available for sale to enjoy or to take home.

Take a Hike! with Jay Raffaldini
Sunday, June 21 | 10:30am-1pm

Join Owner Jay Raffaldini and long time NC resident and outdoorsman Steve Nelson, as they show you the way through the Raffaldini woods and vineyards. Wear sensible walking shoes and prepare yourself for a moderate 90 minute hike followed by a hearty luncheon which of course includes wine! During the hike, Jay will share details of the vineyard and Steve will share his love of the woods. Ticket includes a guided hike, lunch and two glasses of wine.

Together for the first time, take advantage of this special trio of Montepulciano for Dad! Montepulciano Riserva is sourced exclusively from our oldest and highest altitude vineyard block. Montepulciano clusters are sorted three times prior to Appassimento, the traditional Italian method of drying fruit, and fermentation. This laborious technique creates an opaque, full-bodied Montepulciano of unparalleled structure, character and lively acidity with aging potential. Often compared to Merlot for it’s general drinkability and easy pairing with a wide range of food it is simply a delicious wine.

Bookmarks Salute Always Italy at Home with Frances Mayes Flyer

We're excited to host a virtual tour of Italy with Frances Mayes and Ondine Cohane through their new book Always Italy. This book, published by National Geographic, is a lush guide, featuring more than 350 glorious photographs. It showcases the best Italy has to offer from the perspective of these two women who have spent their lives reveling in its unique joys. You will get to view some of these photographs and hear both writers discuss the book, their travels, and live vicariously from your couch.

We will also experience Italy right here in North Carolina with a visit to Raffaldini Vineyards. Barbara Raffaldini, co-owner of the vineyard and Bookmarks Board President, will lead us on a virtual tour of their beautiful property.

All attendees will be entered to win a special Italian prize pack from Bookmarks that will include a copy of Always Italy, two bottles of Raffaldini wine, and some special Bookmarks surprises. We have implemented enhanced procedures to ensure your safety and enjoyment. We ask for your patience and understanding in these unusual times.

In order to maintain required physical distancing and maximize comfort, Raffaldini has limited its onsite seating. So our onsite seating is subject to availability. We kindly ask that you limit your time at our onsite seating to a maximum of two hours. To accommodate additional guests and for those who wish to stay with us for longer than two hours, we invite you to bring your own chairs, picnic blankets, and shade.

2018 Grande Riserva: The Wine that Shouldn't Be

The flight of the Bumble Bee defines physics- their wings are too small and don't flap fast enough to support their weight. Yet somehow, through the sheer force of their will and determination, they fly. Given the nearly impossible climate conditions we have here, we should not make a wine this wonderful, yet we do. Raffaldini Grande Riserva our Flagship is our Bumble Bee wine. Montepulciano, Petit Verdot, and Sagrantino grapes, harvested at optimal ripeness are triple-sorted and then dried heavily using the Appassimento drying process to further concentrate the grapes natural flavors and aromas.

This special wine is limited to 48 case production and only available at Raffaldini while supplies last. This wine features the hearty Montepulciano grape grown at Raffaldini Vineyards skillfully blended with the Norton Grape from JOLO, a spectacularly fruit-forward and smooth component to the wine.

2019 Vermentino Superiore: Our Signature White

The 2019 Vermentino Superiore, made from our signature white grape, reflects the best of what our estate vineyard has to offer utilizing minimal intervention from our winemaker. This hands-off approach is built around whole cluster pressed juice fermented in stainless steel to bring forth the citrus and tropical aspects of the grape while maintaining its refreshing, natural acidity. It's unique mid-palate depth is the result of a small addition of Appassimento wood-fermented Vermentino. Our Winemaker, Chris Nelson, recommends serving Vermentino Superiore slightly chilled, about 55°F-60°F and serving in a larger glass, like one you would enjoy with a red wine, to fully take in all of the subtle aromas and flavors.
