October is Italian Heritage Month   This month we honor our families and others who made the journey from Italy to the United States in search of a better life. We especially  honor and remember our maternal grandparents, Urbano Di Renzo and his wife Amelia De Felice Di Renzo (pictured in the photo on the right), who both came to the United States from Abruzzo as young adults in the 1910s, and our father Jerome L. Raffaldini, (pictured far left in the photo on the left), who was born in Mantova, Italy. Our father at the age of 29 visited New York City in 1951 on a business trip. He liked what he saw in New York, including our mother, Theresa Di Renzo (daughter of Urbano and Amelia; pictured with her arm in his in the photo at left), and decided to stay. Vine to Wine Guests Experience Harvest at Raffaldini Vineyards Last Friday under picture-perfect skies a group of Raffaldini patrons got the experience of a lifetime harvesting and processing fruit from our vineyards alongside Owner and Winemaker Jay Raffaldini and the rest of the winemaking team. The group harvested Sangiovese and Sagrantino and after lunch headed over to the winery to remove the Passito, or dehydrated fruit, from the Fruttaio (drying room) to begin the fermentation process.  Then they refilled the racks with freshly-picked fruit ready to begin the Appassimento process. Winery Update Production of our first-ever traditional method sparkling wine    Last month we harvested grapes for our inaugural vintage of a traditional sparkling wine called Aguri. We looked at the weather forecast closely to time the harvest for peak acidity and to meet our strict fermentation requirements, since every step of the process requires absolute precision. There is no room for error. Fermentation of the base wines is currently in progress, and we could not be happier with the results. The next phase will include a secondary fermentation in bottle and finish with the disgorgement of yeast to clarify the finished wine.   September is NC Wine Month On August 29, Raffaldini Vineyards participated along with a select number of wineries from across the state at an industry kickoff event. Governor Roy Cooper and Commissioner of Agriculture Steve Troxler addressed the crowd of industry members and journalists, and Governor Cooper signed the official NC Wine Month proclamation. The state's wine industry brings in more than $2.5 billion to the state's economy and employs over 5000 North Carolinians. Celebrating Italy at Raffaldini Vineyards’ 12th Annual Wine Festival

Ronda, NC—Experience ‘Chianti in the Carolinas’ as Raffaldini Vineyards celebrates Italian wine, heritage, and family at their 12th Annual Festa Italiana on Saturday, September 16th from 11:00 am – 5:00 pm.

Feast on authentic Italian favorites from local food trucks such as pastas, paninis, brick oven pizzas, espresso, gelato, sausages, and more. Crowd favorites, Triple P, of Winston-Salem will excite with jazz improvisations while you shop for handmade goods and local ingredients from one of the many craft vendors. Fun for the entire family includes entertainers, face painting and crafts. You can even learn about your family history or brush up on your Italiano with the Triad Friends of Italy Chapter at the Italian Spoken Here tent.

Pre-sale admission is available online and at the vineyard for $20.00 and will also be available day-of at the festival gate. Lawn chairs and blankets are permitted, however outside food, outside alcohol, and pets are not allowed into the festival.

Fourth Street #110 in Winston-Salem. There will be hourly drawings for prizes and giveaways for all attendees. Raffaldini Vineyards Reveals Pino Vino IX Rescue Dog Ambassador

Ronda, N.C., (June 17, 2017)—Raffaldini Vineyards released Pino Vino IX on Saturday and unveiled this year’s rescue dog competition ambassador, Bentley, who is featured on the wine’s label.

“This year’s ambassador is not only a rescue dog, but works to serve people in a way that benefits everyone,” said Raffaldini Vineyards owner and winemaker, Jay Raffaldini. “It is astounding what is possible with just a little love and compassion.”

A Yorkie from Cornelius, N.C., Bentley was found in poor health, timid anxious and fearful of humans. With love, care and lots of nurturing, he became the happiest, “fur-legged” little boy. Currently training as a service dog, Bentley hopes to help others with anxiety issues.

As with previous Pino Vino wine releases, a portion of proceeds from sales will go to benefit local animal shelters. Pino Vino IX is available exclusively at Raffaldini Vineyards.

Big Reds Almost Out! Our 2014 Montepulciano Riserva will be sold out before the end of June. This North Carolina Fine Wine Society Best in Show winner received an 89 point score from Italian wine writer, James Suckling, formerly of Wine Spectator. James calls it "A medium fruity wine with firm tannins and a juicy undertone. Tangy acidity and a clean finish. Has the earthy, fruity character of Montepulciano." The 2014 Montepulciano Riserva will sell out approximately six weeks prior to the release of the 2015 Montepulciano Riserva. We gave them access to our recently purchased land adjacent to Groce Road so they can reshape the approach to Raffaldini with more sweeping and elegant contours.
