Riserva Flights Coming In February!

We are thrilled to announce that in February we will be offering a Riserva flight from older vintages of Grand Riserva, Montepulciano, Sagrantino and an occasional special wine from our cellars. We have acquired a specialized pouring machine custom made in Italy that will allow the wine to be preserved for weeks rather than days thus eliminating spoilage. Due to limited availability of the older vintages, the wines will be able to be tasted through the flights or buy glass but unfortunately no bottles sales. Stay tuned for more information.

As a general reminder to all our guests, to provide a safe, relaxing, and intimate experience for our guests, all visitors must be at least 21 years of age. Infants and children are no longer permitted at the Tasting Room, except on holidays and specially designated family days when we can appropriately staff and have children friendly activities available. Happy Holiday Season from our Famiglia to Yours!

From our family to yours, we would like to wish you all a safe and happy Holiday season. Our tasting room and grounds are closed on Christmas Eve, December 24, Christmas Day, December 25 and New Years Day, January 1, to allow our staff an opportunity to celebrate with their family, friends, and loved ones.

Raffaldini Releases 2017 Grande Riserva NFT (Non Fungible Token)

Raffaldini is pleased to introduce its first NFT, Non-fungible Token, Grande Riserva 2017!

We are introducing this Grande Riserva NFT onto the digital marketplace. We have selected the 2017 Grande Riserva, to commemorate the 20 years that Raffaldini Vineyards has been operational.

To further celebrate this once in a lifetime opportunity the lucky buyer will also receive a 20 year Classico wine club membership which provides access to members-only events, discounts on merchandise as well as event tickets, and 6 bottles of wine, twice a year.

Many of you are already well familiar with the wine, but what is a non-fungible token(NFT)?

Think of it as collectible digital pieces of art or commemorations. Traditionally, physical art has been replicated, reprinted or faked, and requires an expert to verify the legitimacy, but NFT’s are backed by blockchain, a digital record of each transaction, allowing anyone to verify its legitimacy.

The flight of the Bumble Bee defies physics; their wings are too small and don't flap fast enough to support their weight. Yet somehow, through the sheer force of their will and determination, they fly. Given the nearly impossible climate conditions in North Carolina, we should not have been able to make such a spectacular wine, yet we did. Montepulciano, Petit Verdot, and Sagrantino grapes were all harvested at optimal ripeness, triple-sorted, and then dried heavily using the Appassimento drying process to further concentrate the grapes natural flavors and aromas. We give you the 2017 Grande Riserva.

Two Raffaldini Wines Earn 90+ In Decanter Wine Magazine

We are excited to share our 2017 Grande Riserva and 2020 Vermentino Superiore were rated 92 and 91 respectively in Decanter Magazine!

Our 2020 Vermentino Superiore also scored 90 points by James Suckling, and James gave our 2017 Grande Riserva a 92. Look for new vintages of these wines coming soon!

We are open on Wednesday. November 24 for those last minute wine pairing or gathering gifts and we will reopen on Friday, November 26 for our Afternoon of Holiday Cheer and to kick off the holiday shopping season!

Grande Riserva Release
Saturday, December 4 | 1pm-3pm

Wine Club Members, enjoy the first taste of our 2019 Grande Riserva! The Raffaldini 2019 Grande Riserva represents our finest efforts yet. The great growing conditions of that year produced a wine with the fruit levels of the 97-pointed 2017 vintage, yet we were able to introduce more elements that make this reminiscent of a great Super Tuscan wine. This is a gem that can age well over a decade with the wine really opening up in 2025. Due to the difficult weather in 2020, we did not produce a Grande Riserva, so after this release, the next Grande Riserva will not out until December 2023 / January 2024.

Join us for the release party at the Raffaldini winery on Saturday, December 4th from 1 to 3 pm at the winery. This free event is for wine club members only. Enjoy this limited opportunity to taste the 2019 Grande Riserva before it goes to bottle sales only. We will be serving light food to enjoy with your tasting. Please click to RSVP. The event starts promptly at 1pm so please arrive on time.

Grande Riserva will go onto sale in the Villa the following weekend and we don't expect it to last very long!

Raffaldini Wins Big at Sommelier Challenge International Wine Competition

We are thrilled to announce our most recent round of awards at the 2021 Sommelier Challenge International Wine Competition held in California!

Desaria, which topped the Vermentino varietal category is our newest release in the Fall Wine Club package along with the 94-point, platinum medal winning 2019 Sagrantino, and 93-point, gold medal winner, Montepulciano Riserva. All of these wines are currently available while supplies last. Don't miss an opportunity to taste and collect these exceptional wines.

Founded by the late, great wine expert, Robert Whitley, this competition is known in the wine world as one of the toughest and best respected competitions due to its strict grading standards and highly qualified judging panel.

This year's chief judge, "Super Somm" Jesse Rodriguez, is formally educated in wine including credentials from four different sommelier organizations. He also worked at Napa's famous French Laundry restaurant and was a part of the team that won its first three-Michelin star award.

Raffaldini Wins Big at Sommelier Challenge International Wine Competition

We are thrilled to announce our most recent round of awards at the 2021 Sommelier Challenge Competition held in California! Founded by the late, great wine expert, Robert Whitley, this competition is known in the wine world as one of the toughest and best respected competitions due to its strict grading standards and highly qualified judging panel.

This year's chief judge, "Super Somm" Jesse Rodriguez, is formally educated in wine including credentials from four different sommelier organizations. He also worked at Napa's famous French Laundry restaurant and was a part of the team that won its first three-Michelin star award.

Desaria, which topped the Vermentino varietal category is our newest release in the Fall Wine Club package along with the 94-point, platinum medal winning 2019 Sagrantino, and 93-point, gold medal winner, Montepulciano Riserva. All of these wines are currently available while supplies last. Don't miss an opportunity to taste and collect these exceptional wines.

2020 Desaria

Our second release of this wine is composed of our Vermentino grapes and for the first time we blended in some white (yes white) Montepulciano. Simply put, Desaria is a white wine that wants to be a red wine. To this end we treat this wine in the winery like we would treat any red wine through extended skin contact, fermenting and aging in oak as well as liberal use of the Appassimento drying process. The end result is a wonderfully rich and enticing full-bodied white that is unlike any white made in North Carolina or anywhere in the country for that matter. We are extremely proud of this wine, and we hope you like it as much as we do.

Beautiful 2021 Vintage Nears Completion

Our Winemaking Team has been working diligently to complete the 2021 vintage. While the weather this year was generally milder and with a few less surprises, the dry and warm temps during the growing season provided us with quality fruit with and excellent ripeness. As fruit moves into the fruttaio (Drying Room) we are eager to taste these wines develop and share the newest Raffaldini vintage with you!

Cape Fear Living Features Sangiovese/ Cheese Pairing

Cape Fear Living interviewed Suzanne Fanning, a native of the Tar Heel State, who is now in charge of marketing the Wisconsin Dairy Industry, to talk about her favorite North Carolina wine and Wisconsin Cheese pairings:

Nestled near the Yadkin River and Blue Ridge Mountains, the rolling hills and gentle slopes of the Raffaldini vineyard are blessed with mild breezes that constantly freshen and circulate air. Unique to the vineyard is an abundance of broken granite and schist which provide for excellent soil drainage and give the grapes a very distinctive terroir.

A dry, light to medium bodied wine, the 2019 Sangiovese Classico possesses dry, earthy aromas with medium tannins and bountiful acids. Bright, lush red fruit in the form of bing cherries and cranberries, followed by a hint of earth, red currant and rhubarb. A wine like this exceptionally well balanced Sangiovese is best paired with a blue cheese with a mellow, earthy flavor and soft, creamy finish.

Join owner Jay Raffaldini and long time NC resident and outdoors-man Steve Nelson, as they show you the way through the Raffaldini woods and vineyards. Wear sensible walking shoes and prepare yourself for a moderate 90 minute hike followed by a hearty luncheon which of course includes wine! During the hike, Jay will share details of the vineyard and Steve will share his love of the woods. Ticket includes a guided hike, lunch and two glasses of wine.

Assemblaggio is a two-hour educational wine experience led by Owner Jay Raffaldini in our winery barrel room. Each blend you create will be carefully analyzed, sampled and help inspire our new vintage of Grande Riserva.

This is an opportunity to hone your winemaking knowledge and ability, learn more about grape varietals, and make a few new friends in the process. Blending trials will be held in the barrel room allowing you to experience the winery during the winemaking session.
